EILEEN APPEARS ON EGGHEADS
Candy Jar author Eileen Younghusband had an exciting opportunity to take part in the BBC TV show 'Eggheads' recently. Taking on the Eggheads as part of a 'People's Book Prize' team, Eileen battled it out over a range of topics including her speciality, Food and Drink.
Eileen has to remain tight-lipped about the outcome until the show is broadcast, but in the meantime, here's a picture of her and the rest of the gang on the day of filming:
Eileen has authored two titles with Candy Jar Books: One Womans' War and Men I Have Known, which are available via the usual outlets as well as direct from Candy Jar.

Candy Jar Films was asked to produce a video on behalf of the substance misuse support agencies across Wales as part of a new 'Recovery Framework' plan launched by the Welsh Government in February 2014.
We filmed a series of interviews in front of green screen so that we had control over the background and then shot a handful of cutaways to add variety and interest to the edit.

CANDY JAR COMPLETES CHANNEL 5 ADVERTS!
Candy Jar Films was asked by 'What's in the Bible?' to produce a series of short 'stings' to appear during ad breaks for the Channel 5 TV series 'The Bible' broadcast on Channel 5 in November.
Created by Phil Vischer, famous for producing VeggieTales, 'What's in the Bible?' sets out to teach kids (and parents!) the story of the Bible. Many of us know the stories of Moses, Noah, David, and Jesus, but in this ground-breaking new family video series, the audience is shown how they all fit together to tell one big, redemptive story. In 'What's in the Bible?' Buck Denver and his friends take the audience on a journey through the whole Bible, featuring witty dialogue, fast-paced animation and catchy tunes.
The Candy Jar team set out to interview children from local schools about their knowledge of the Bible, using funny and interesting responses to create the stings. Shot in front of a 'green screen', we then replaced the background with a variety of different colours in post production.
Thanks to Albany Road School and Roath Primary School for allowing us to come in and film during the day.
Candy Jar Films is available for all kinds of filming work - big or small. Please get in touch to see how we can help you.

AN EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN - AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE
Candy Jar's newest title, One Woman's War, is due to be launched on the 4th July 2011.
The Second World War is dominated by heroic tales of men defending their country against a formidable enemy but what about the women who also played their part in fighting for freedom? Eileen Younghusband (90) was just 18 when she joined the Womens Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF).
She quickly demonstrated her keen intellect and mathematical skills, playing a crucial role in Fighter Command’s underground Filter Room. Working gruelling shifts under enormous pressure she and her companions worked tirelessly, tracking the swarms of enemy aircraft that sought to break the British resolve. She even had the dubious honour of detecting the first of Hitler’s devastating V2 rockets as it fell on an unsuspecting London.
One Woman's War gives a vivid insight into the life of a young woman facing the grim reality of war.
Available from Candy Jar Books, One Woman's War retails at £15.99 and can be purchased from the Candy Jar Webstore.

CANDY JAR FILMING NEWS REPORT
CANDY JAR SUPPORTS CAMPAIGN TO SAVE LIBRARIES
Over 500 libraries are threatened with the prospect of closure.Your help is needed.
We must try and change this decision.
522 libraries (462 buildings and 60 mobiles) are currently under threat of losing funding out of 4517 in the UK. Cuts of this magnitude could do lasting damage to the public library service.
We need our libraries because:
• they are a community resource and meeting place and promote social cohesion
• libraries provide books and other resources free to people on low incomes and the elderly
• children who visit the library are twice as likely to read well as those who don’t
• children who are read to every day at age three have a vocabulary at five two months more advanced than those who do not
• 30% of UK citizens do not have access to the Internet. Public libraries provide it free of charge
• three million people lack adequate reading skills. Libraries can help them access education and work
• librarians provide expert support to the public
• the OECD says that finding ways to engage pupils in reading is one of the most effective ways to leverage social change.
LIBRARIES MATTER - KEEP THEM SAFE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION!
Please write to your MP and tell them to support this campaign.
Don’t know who your MP is, or how to contact him/her?
Go to www.writetothem.com, put in your postcode and you will be given the names of – and contact details for – your MP, Councillors, MSPs or AMs.

NEW CANDY JAR DOCUMENTARY
Candy Jar has recently completed work on a documentary about its current office building - a former NatWest bank building on Bute Street in Cardiff.
This not-for-profit film was inspired by the many stories that have been associated with this magnificent structure, which was built in the 1930s and now serves as a venue for events and provides office space for local businesses.
In the film, interviewees give a fascinating insight into how the building has affected their lives - including former bank staff and customers. Candy Jar Director, Shaun Russell, was proud to have been part of this project: "It was fascinating to learn about the history of not just the building, but also Cardiff Bay – or Tiger Bay as it used to be known. The Bay has always been a lively, colourful and interesting part of Cardiff, and it's important to record those personal accounts of our heritage before they're lost forever."
With an imposing banking hall inspired by neo-classical Greek design, the former NatWest Bank has stood the test of time over the years and the owner is currently working to restore the building to its former glory.
Candy Jar would like to thank Butetown History and Arts Centre for providing photographs to be used in the film.

DIRECTORS FEATURE IN STRATEGY DOCUMENT
Directors of Candy Jar Shaun Russell and Justin Chaloner have been featured in Cardiff Council's strategy document 'Cardiff - What Matters'. the overarching strategy that will shape how Cardiff moves forward over the next 10 years. It has been developed over the last year by a range of public, private and third sector partners, focusing on outcomes for the city across organisational boundaries, delivering what matters most to people.
Shaun and Justin (as Directors of Candy Jar sister company Hubbub Media ) give their opinion about Cardiff's economy and the future: “With TV companies like the BBC investing in and locating to Cardiff it’s going to have a huge impact on the city and on Wales as a whole. There will be great opportunities for new media businesses, but it’s also going to help create a thriving economy, as well as making a strong cultural contribution.”
