LOCAL STARS SHINING BRIGHTLY FOR CHRISTMAS

Children from Albany Primary and Roath Park have been featured in national TV sponsorship advertisements for What’s in the Bible, the official sponsors of the hit Channel 5 TV series, The Bible.

Created by Cardiff-based TV Production Company, Candy Jar Films, the team interviewed children from both schools, asking them about their knowledge of The Bible.

Answers included “Three Wise Shepherds,” “It has a story about God,” “Noah’s Ark and there’s a boat,” and “My sister ripped out all the pages.”

Shaun Russell, director at Candy Jar, said: “Being a multi-cultural and diverse city, Cardiff was an obvious place for us to film these adverts. Both schools were incredibly accommodating and supportive of this project. We were really impressed with the breadth of knowledge demonstrated by these Welsh children.”

The Bible is an epic 10-hour mini-series that brings to life the dramatic tales of faith and courage in the most widely-read book of all time. Breath-taking in scope and scale, it features powerful performances, exotic locations and cutting-edge visual effects.

The remaining episodes of the series, which focus on the story of Jesus Christ, continue this Saturday (21^st December) and conclude Sunday (22^nd December) on Channel 5.

CANDY JAR TAKES A TRIP TO THE AIRPORT!

In September 2013 the Candy Jar team took a trip... to Cardiff airport. Unlike the others there we had different plans. Our mission? To give 400 lucky travellers a free copy of our wonderful new publication See You in September – the perfect travelling companion.

When Joanne Teague became seriously ill and was diagnosed with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos – a rare and still incurable, life-threatening condition – she decided to grab as much life as she could get. Her solution was to spend six months travelling around Europe with her husband and three young children. Their travels were restricted to one continent but we want this book to travel the world.

If you are reading this with a copy in your hand please do read and enjoy it. All we ask is that you leave it somewhere (a train, hotel, coffee shop...) or pass it on to someone once you’re finished so that its adventure can continue.

LATEST CANDY JAR VIDEO - WHY DO SOME PEOPLE ATTRACT MOSQUITOES?

Candy Jar Films recently teamed up with best-selling author Francesca Gould to produce a short informative video about mosquitoes based on her New York Times bestseller book 'Why Is Yawning Contagious?'
The team at Candy Jar was able to make use of animation and 'green screen' techniques to put Francesca right in the middle of the cartoon fun!

AN EX-OFFENDER INTERVIEWS HIMSELF!

Dru Mackenzie was convicted for fraud in 2008 but has since rebuilt his life with the help of friends and family. He now runs a successful coach business with two business partners and is currently developing his career as a TV presenter.

We were asked by Dru to film and edit an interview that would explore his background and help to tell his story – offering up some insights into why he made the mistakes that he did, and how he successfully got himself onto the 'straight and narrow'.

ONE WOMAN'S WAR - COMING SOON ON DVD!

Candy Jar is pleased to announce the forthcoming DVD, based on the critically acclaimed memoir One Woman's War by Eileen Younghusband.

Eileen Younghusband (90) was just 18 when she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). She quickly demonstrated her keen intellect and mathematical skills, playing a crucial role in Fighter Command’s underground Filter Room.

Working grueling shifts under enormous pressure she and her companions worked tirelessly, tracking the swarms of enemy aircraft that sought to break the British resolve. She even had the dubious honour of detecting the first of Hitler’s devastating V2 rockets as it fell on an unsuspecting London.

In 2011, Candy Jar Books published Eileen's memoir to critical and commercial success.

Now, this DVD goes beyond the book and delves deeper into Eileen's wartime experiences as she gives a frank and revealing interview about her experiences leading up to and during the Second World War.

CONGRATS TO ATLANTIC DASH BOYS!

Back in summer 2011, Candy Jar helped produce a promotional video for two Welsh Firefighters attempting to row the Atlantic Ocean unsupported.

We're pleased to say that John Haskill and Jamie Windsor made it safely across. Enduring extreme waves, harsh conditions and painful sores, the boys completed the grueling challenge in 45 days, 19 hours and 21 minutes.

EILEEN YOUNGHUSBAND - A HERO OF WWII

One Woman's War author Eileen Younghusband recently appeared on Channel 4's latest historical documentary 'World War II - The Last Hereos'. Eileen talked about her experiences of hunting V2 rockets in Antwerp in the final stages of the Second World War.
